Can you give me the characteristics of what you conceive a “Soul Mate” to be?
I’m a Lyricist working on a well known play. I’m not mentioning it here because I know people will get sidetracked and comment on that( if you MUST know, email me and I’ll feed your curiosity.)
There is a scene where the leading character looks at a photograph and realizes this is indeed his soul mate. He doesn’t know her name or where to find her, only that he must.
Can you differentiate for me the difference between love and lust, and how I may portray this?

You’re getting a lot of good answers here; I’ll try to add something without duplication. The continuum of people you meet is: enemies, strangers, acquaintances, friends,family, companions, partners, lovers. I think “soul mates” can encompass someone in the last five categories. It is someone to whom you have a natural affinity. You can even meet someone on the internet and have an instant affinity, a feeling that you have known them for a long time.
It doesn’t have to be a romantic relationship, but the most intense relationship is when your lover is also your soul mate whom you not only love but also lust after(maybe I should say desire, because “lust” has negative connotations).
